It took years for Coy E. Garrett to assemble the properties that turned a largely vacant Arlington mall into a major new industrial project. But his persistence paid off with a successful transaction that earned him the TAR 2016 William C. Jennings Award for outstanding effort in commercial brokerage.

The 83-acre site of the old Six Flags Mall has been cleared to make way for 1.2 million square feet of industrial space that will house suppliers for General Motors, which has a plant across the highway. The project will eventually support up to 1,250 jobs and $151 million in taxable sales and purchases over the next decade. But to reach this point took years of Garrett working through setbacks and challenges.
