All REALTORS® must take Code of Ethics training every three years, and the current deadline by which all REALTORS® must take the training is December 31, 2021. The TREC Legal II course required to renew your license no longer satisfies the NAR requirement for REALTOR® Code of Ethics training.
How it Affects You
- If you completed TREC Legal II in 2019 or the NAR-approved ethics training in 2019 or 2020: You have completed the NAR requirement for the current cycle that ends on December 31, 2021.
- If you did not complete TREC Legal II in 2019 or another NAR-approved ethics training in 2019 or 2020: You must complete NAR Code of Ethics training by December 31, 2021.

This is somewhat confusing. I took Legal II 2018-2019 in 2018. I wonder if that works?
Color me confused as well. If you are referring to Ethics II as the Legal II update, it no longer satisfied the Code of Ethics membership requirement after 12/31/2019. If NAR is showing you as incomplete, you likely need to take the COE training before the end of this year. Your TREC license requires you to take Legal I & II; your NAR membership requires 2.5 hours of COE training every three years.
My Legal II course taken in January 2020 was titled “Legal/ethics”.
I can see where this would be very confusing. I’m not sure why 360 Training is using that title but it is not the NAR Code of Ethics you need for membership. It does satisfy your TREC license requirement.
Taking Legal II in 2018 will not count. The beginning of 2019 started a different Code of Ethics requirement cycle. Since the new cycle started in 2019, and the changes adopted by NAR requiring everyone to take the actual COE education began in 2020, we were only able to count Legal II taken in 2019 as meeting the requirement.

Usually, new agents take the new member COE class as part of their orientation. If that’s not the case, then they would need to take the Code of Ethics course before 12/31/2021. Please have them check their status.

I took TREC Legal II in April 2020…so I will have to take it again? I need clarity on this please?

If I had code of ethics in 2020 as well as legal 2 in 2020 that does not count?? I need this clarified

I took my last Ethics training course on March 26, 2018, so I need to take the new Ethic training course….when I look at the options it has a FREE version and a CE version….how do I know which one I need to take?

Some new member orientation courses incorporate Code of Ethics training and some do not. Check with your local association that provided the training to see if yours did. If your orientation included Code of Ethics training, then you have satisfied the NAR requirement.
