More people are moving to the South than leaving, resulting in a net population gain for the region and Texas, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Texas saw an estimated 524,500 people move to the state, according to 2017 American Community Survey estimates, second to Florida for domestic in-migration. The state also is second in out-migration with 467,300 people estimated to have moved away, trailing California’s 661,000 departures.
Harris and Dallas counties are among the counties with the highest immigration inflows in the nation, according to five-year U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
